After graduation he moved to Boulder, Colorado where his career took off. He quickly landed a gig playing bass with one of Boulder's top 80's bands, Bootleg. Wanting to be closer to a more happening music scene, Donny moved to Denver where he was busy playing with local Top 40 bands and playing at the mountain ski resorts. During the 90's, Donny also spent four years as a bass instructor at The Grandview Music Academy where he drew the attention of local independent recording artists. This lead to tours and recording with several independent artists which included performances at the Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheater, The Telluride Blues Festival, The Aspen Jazz Festival, Denver's Philmore, New York's Bottoms Up Club, The Monterey Blues Festival in California, The Montreal Jazz Festival, The House of Blues in New Orleans and Las Vegas and Woodstock '99.

As the indie artist scene began to wane, the warmer climate of the South drew him to Tampa, Florida and in 2001 he met Quency Jennings of KC and The Sunshine Band. Together they formed the makings of what is now Otis Velt and The Old School Band which performs regularly in the Tampa Bay and surrounding area.
";

By age 10 he was already in his first band playing at his school and parties. Growing up James was rarely seen without a guitar in his hands. He rapidly developed his skills as a guitar player, being inspired by the great guitarists of the sixties and seventies such as Jimmy Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Billy Gibbons.

James has played with some of Jacksonville's great local musicians such as Jim Brown's Opal City Band, Steve Holland, Atimas Pyle (guitarist formerly with Molly Hachet), the drummer formerly with Lynyrd Skynyrd and Derek Trucks. During his early music career, James traveled extensively with Jacksonville's favorite, The ESP Band. Following a five year stint playing with Carnival Cruise Lines, James fell in love with Tampa and settled here in 1996. After playing with several local bands, he was eventually recruited by Otis Velt and the Old School Band.

Hearing James play is always a treat because you never know when he is going to tastefully slip in some Southern Rock guitar licks from his Jacksonville days. Pay attention and see if you can catch em! James enjoys going boating for cruising and fishing and has the same passion for classic cars as he does for music. \"The greatest thing in life is internal peace, external peace and global peace.\"
";
